As his Director’s Choice, Radu Jude has chosen two works by young filmmakers to accompany his film I DO NOT CARE IF WE GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS BARBARIANS: PHANTASIESÄTZE by Dane Komljen shows a post-apocalyptic setting: housing blocks with socialist insignia stand abandoned. Super-8 home movies of family joy in the summer outdoors bear witness to human existence in the past. Following the nuclear catastrophe, nature has taken over the architecture and the cinema screen lies in tatters.

Classical Period

In Ted Fendt’s 16mm gem CLASSICAL PERIOD, exchanging thoughts, readings and writings are central: a Philadelphia clique talks about literature, poetry, music, architecture, history and a translation of Dante’s “Divine Comedy” – a microcosm that keeps everyday life at bay. (bik)
